In 1970, Ms Chakladar married Captain Chandan Roy, GM aviation for FSNL, a commercial pilot and athlete. They met through common friends. The wedding ceremony took place in Pondicherry, at Auroville, in the holy presence of the Mother in Her room.
In 1972, her first child, daughter Priyanka was born.With the love and support of her husband and family, her dance works evolved. The stellar performances in Tagorean Dance dramas, Shyama, Chandalika, Chitrangada alongside solo Classical performances are still remembered with awe.
Her brief stint with modeling, for ad films and print media, associated her with brands like Bru instant coffee, Tajmahal premium tea, Eveready batteries and Safed detergent.
In 1974 she joined Modern High School as a teacher and continued teaching till early 1981. During this tenure, she choreographed Taasher Desh for the stage, in 1976.
In 1974 she acted in another Taasher Desh, this time a documentary film.
On a trip to Orissa in 1974, MS. Roy met the famous Odissi dancer Sanjukta Panigrahi. Mrs. Panigrahi had earlier seen her performance in Kolkata and offered to train her in Odissi. Thus MS. Roy became the only student and disciple of Sanjukta Panigrahi.
Savitri, her unique production was first staged in 1979.
